Dharamsala

DharamsalaDharmasala is located in the tall slopes and high reaches of the Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh. Dharamsala is divided into two parts: Upper Dharamsala and the Lower Dharamsala, differing by more or less 1000 m in altitude. Dhaulandhar Mountain is present in the background beautifying the town of Dharamshala. The headquarters of the Tibetan government in exile and the residence of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama is present in this town.

Several Tibetan refugees are settled here and monks carry out their normal everyday life here. There are numerous temples and monasteries which make it a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site and also make it a chief tourist attraction, drawing people from all over the globe. Many institutions are also present here which help to protect and guard the culture, history, tradition and art of Tibet.

Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh comprises of numerous tourist attractions. Some of them being :

 Namgyal Monastery : Located in upper Dharamsala, Nangyal is the personal monastery of the Dalai Lama. It comprises of statues of Avalokitesvara, Buddha and Padmasambhava. Here, future Lamas are also presented with higher Tibetan studies in an institute of learning present here.    

Gangchen Kyishong : Another significant place is the Gangchen Kyishong where the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is located. The workplace of the Tibetan government in exile is also situated here.  

Monastery of Nechung Oracle : In the complex of Gangchen Kyishong, the monastery of Nechung Oracle is located. The authorized official of  the Dalai Lama  sits here.

Men-Tse-Khang : Situated close to Nenchug, this is the center for Tibetan medicine. 

Norbulingka Monastery : This magnificent monastery in Dharamsala is proud of its splendid compilation of handicrafts, art, paintings and thankas. 

Rewalsar : Tourists here can visit and take a look at the cave temple of the amazing Indian Tantrik Guru Padmasambhava.
